Clinical Psychologist &
NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Specialist
Welcome
Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision - you need to have trust and confidence in the person with whom you choose to work. Reading about me here can give you an inkling of who I am, however, it is not a the same as meeting in person and getting that real life experience. So, before you read further, know that I strongly recommend that you consider a first appointment with any therapist a consultation that should allow you to gather information and get a feeling for who this person is, how they work and how relate to you.
My practice focus is on working with men's issues, adolescent boys and couples. Within these parameters, I am an active therapist concerned with the practical results you are able to realize from our work together - I will actively engage with you to identify the practical steps forward that will help you see progress and reach your goals.
I was originally trained as a Psychodynamic psychotherapist and also did copious amounts of post-doctoral training in Gestalt psychology, Cognitive-Behavioral psychology, and other methods such as group therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy. Through my years of training and my work with many different clients since starting my practice in 1997, I have found each of these approaches to be useful in that different people respond to different methods - there is not one that fits all. I believe this varied approach has allowed clients to feel truly supported in finding strategies that really work for them specifically, thus realizing tangible results in their lives.
A great influence on my approach was spending six years of my training in group therapy in New York with my mentor, Dr. Tom Levin, who trained with Dr. Theodore Reik (one of Dr. Sigmund Freud's first students). Dr. Levin was a brilliant man whose passion and accomplishments as a humanitarian, social activist and idealistic pragmatist have continued to inspire me throughout my career.
I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues including ADHD, anxiety, autism, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD, trauma and depression. Since 2002, I have used the NeurOptimal® neurofeedback brain training system in conjunction with talk therapy with many clients experiencing these kinds of issues. While it is by no means a requirement of working with me, I have seen people experience significant positive results when incorporating this easy, relaxing and all-natural method of brain training into their sessions. You can read more about this fascinating technology and the Chagrin Brain Training Center I started here.
I look forward to meeting you and discussing how we might work together. You can contact me using any one of the links at the bottom of this page.
